Combo w/d question: Vented or Ventless?
I did a search for threads about this, but didn't see anything recent, so I am starting a new one. I know that the older ventless models did not perform nearly as well as their vented counterparts, but my understanding is that this has changed. True?
I am looking at a coach that has hookups and cabinet for w/d but does not have an actual unit. I do not believe that it ever has. I'd really rather not cut a hole for a vent in the side of a new-to-me coach, and am strongly leaning towards purchasing a ventless machine if I get this coach. I will be primarily park camping (travel RN, I'll be parked for three months at a time, with brief trips in between) with full hookups, so the increased water usage with vented is not critical. Small loads are also okay. I'm definitely looking at a combo model rather than stacked, the question is, are ventless okay? Worth buying and putting in a coach?

On a boat, especially a sailboat, the ventless will not allow water intrusion but a MH it isn't as efficient. The ventless use a condensing form to get the moisture out and it takes longer.

The length of time for a load is not of great concern to me. If I can clean a load of scrubs every few days without going to the laundromat or CG laundry, I'll be a happy camper.

I hear you, but why? I know that the older ventless units underperformed and gave ventless a bad name. Is the current opinion based on that old reputation, or are people having issues with late-model ventless units?
The Splendide 7100 XC (ventless) at Camping World has all great reviews. What is the science behind vented being better, besides water usage? Condensation in the rig seems to no longer be an issue.

The sole purpose for the existence of the ventless models are to provide automated laundry where no venting is available. Vented is universally recognized as better, as long as it is possible to do so without venting directly into the living space.

The primary issue with ventless is they don't fully dry so you really need to be there to take the clothes out. You also need to hang them for a little bit to let them finish drying. That said unless you do small loads even the vented don't dry all that great best bet is to install a stacked set then you get a washer and dryer that both work with no compromise.

Ventless also uses a lot more water to dry the clothes

Not a big deal to put a hole in the wall for the vent. When I removed my outside vent cover it looked like Winnebago used an axe to cut the hole. Vent cover covers it up though.
I would go with vented.

What is the process of installing a vent? I imagine you don't want to drill through an electrical cord in the wall.

We went with vented for all the reasons stated above.
You might find after closer inspection that your coach already has a vent installed. Our cabinet is on the back wall and the vent exits into the engine compartment.
