Hi all,
Here's what I'm wondering...how much electricity does the converter use while we're parked? I'll go into more details....we have an older ('77, I think) RV trailer that we use about every 3rd or 4 th weekend throughout the summer. In between times we either have to clean out the fridge and leave it open to avoid smells etc., or I plug it in, but I know the converter is going (I can hear the humming), but, except for maybe the charging circuit for the battery, nothing else is going anyway while it's parked. What I'm thinking about doing is to turn the breaker off that supplies the converter so that the fridge is the only thing going.
I'm not worried about the battery, I generally put a trickle charger on it for a day or so before we go to make sure it's topped up anyway. (I also think that the charging circuit from the truck works ok, but I have to get the voltmeter out and confirm it one of these days.)
What's the thoughts on this, anyone know what one of these old inverters draw in a 'stand-by' mode?

Once summer arrives and camping season starts our refer is on till cold weather. We have a large four door refer that an converter is on during this time, converter is charging batterys an running refer, only notice slite increase in electric usage. Batteries are always topped off and store extra food in refer. In a emergency was ready to pull out with complete supplies on board. some refers need 12volts to operate all the time. If you run only refer it would be running off your gas supply and draining what ever 12volts you have from battery. I would just leave plugin its alot easier. "007"

Guess I should have been more clear, our fridge runs propane, or 110 volt. I'd like leave it running, without leaving the converter running to save on electricity when we're parked at home, but am just wondering how much a converter would draw running 'idle'?

I don't think you would notice how much your converter would draw as compared to your refer. The both of them would be ok in my book, just check batts so won't run out of water. "007"
