Converter question

Should the fan in my Inteli-Power PD9 160A be running? Mine is not. Is the fan controlled with a fuse? I see 2 fuses on the box, but have not pulled any. Thought I would query you gentlemen first.

Fan only runs when/if converter gets HOT.....usually during HIGH Load conditions
Fan is a variable speed fan......controlled by solid state temp sensing

Those fuses next to fan are most likely the 'reverse polarity' fuses (30A auto blade type fuses). Protection from batteries being hooked up backwards

Thank you for your insight. My system is acting normal within the last couple of days, so I will simply keep monitoring it. Seems so strange that my lights were dimming quite regularly, and then suddenly stopped. Hmmm.

Have you checked the battery cells electrolyte ?
Another possibility , when you first plugged in the house batteries were low on charge , and the converter was running hard to charge them and keep the lights going; then as the batteries reached full charge the converter output stabilized.

Lights dimming...........

Was this while connected to shore power or battery power only?

Now lights are steady....any change in power source (on shore or on battery)?

Check the battery cables terminals on converter...tight and clean
Same with cables at battery posts and frame ground.

Lights dimming can be a converter failing, bad battery, grounds, connections.

Monitoring the DC voltage can tell you a lot. Either a digital multimeter or dedicated 12Volt monitor works well.

I use this monitor that is designed to plug into a standard power outlet:

To determine if converter is working check voltAge at battery with and without converter active. Voltage should increase about 1 volt or so when active. If no change then converter is not charging. The fan in the converter is likely thetmostatically controlled and only comes on under heavy load.
