My Horizon has a Norcold fridge with a cooling unit that is right in the middle of the recalled serial numbers, but it is a 2 door fridge. Called Norcold & rep said to unplug the fridge, and stop using. She said to take to a local dealer for recall work.

Called local dealer and he knew nothing about the recall (in fact, he told me there are no recalls on any Norcolds!!).

Called Norcold back, got a different rep, and she said that they are not performing the recall work on 2 door units, even if they have the suspect CU.

I'm not sleeping well. What should I do?

The recall(s) is/are only on certain models. If your MODEL # is not a part of the recall, your cooling unit s/n is irrelevant as it is NOT the same cooling unit. Mine has been involved in BOTH recalls, AND my cooling unit failed between the recalls ...I would like to have a few years of use without having to have the Norcold worked on!!

Hi all,
If I was in your shoes, I read this Out goes the Norcold in with the Maytag . Now the details may be different for your coach, but stick with the concept and you can sleep at night. I will never have a coach with a Norcold refer.

If you can't sleep, add an automatic fire extinguisher in the fridge compartment. That way you are protected even if Norcold is wrong about your fridge.

Here is one that is ideal for the job.

I would call Norcold back and tell them to get their act together.
Norcold has all 2 door and 4 doors on recall since 1988.
Read this thread for recall information has all numbers that are on the recalls both Norcold and Dometic.

Thanks Gary. I bought an SS-30 last year, when I first became aware of the potential problem. And while it does serve up some peace of mind, there is no assurance that it will extinguish a fire. What if I am running on propane? Will the extinguisher put out a propane gas fire when there is nothing to shut off that fuel supply?

Read this thread[/URL][/B] for recall information has all numbers that are on the recalls both Norcold and Dometic.
Thanks for the link. Will check the numbers again, and call Norcold tomorrow.

re changing to an electric fridge, I have been looking for one that will fit. I have the single door width unit; something like 25", unless we give up the slide-out pantry, which doesn't seem to be a workable option.

And while I'm thinking of it, while looking for an electric fridge, is there any advantage having one with the coils on the back (as the Norcold has), or on the bottom?

Most res fridge have coils on the bottom with fan blowing out from bottom. Their backs are usually just the finish metal.

Norcold Recall near the center of the page is a button to check the status of recalls. Note it does say the serial numbers are not consecutive within the range. Sure sounds like bull hocky to me.
