Cummins onan hdk to rv qd swap ???
Need some advice on a generator swap/repair that I am in the middle of. Burnt the Rotor and Stator out of my Onan HDK 10k and have been mulling over a couple plans of attack. 1996 Monaco Signature with a front slide out Onan HDK 10k Kubota still runs great with 3000 hrs on it. Cummins Onan dealer here in Canada priced me on parts to the tune of around $7000 incl shipping and taxes and I am on my own as far as fixing the problem (meaning no warranty or guaranty that I have the problem solved). Can get me a new RV 10k Quiet Diesel for about double the price with 2 year warranty and says I wont be disappointed in the upgrade due to the noise of the HDK. Since I am going to do the work myself there is some massaging of the old Monaco slide out as the RV QD is higher and I will have to drop the slide carriage some for clearance. When dropping the carriage I am going to get into moving the hydraulic cylinder for the slide down somewhat.
So my question is with any of you that have experienced the HDK 10k and now have experienced the RV QD would you recommend going through the process of making the swap? OR should I save the headache and swap the Stator and Rotor out and stick with the HDK??
Has anyone done the swap?
