My dash radio in my 2007 Hurricane is not working. It is a Jensen VR185. There is no power at all when I press the power button.

I got a voltage meter and applied the prongs to the fuses, one on the red wire and one on the yellow wire. I got a reaction from the needle and I heard a noise similar to the CD spinning each time I made contact.

Then, after trying the power button again with no success, I decided to try the power button while keeping contact with the prongs from the meter to each wire. The radio came to life. But as soon as I removed the prongs the radio shut off.

This does not make any sense to me at all. Hopefully it will to some of you.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The unit has two power sources and a good ground. It sounds like one of the feeds or ground is not complete. Clip on another ground and retry. Check both feeders and replace fuse or turn on ignition or dash switch if so provided.

The fuse is BAD. Putting the meter leads across the fuse acted as a short (and very possibly could burn up the meter).

Replace the fuse, and be happy.

P.S. I suggest you get a book on basic electronics and do some reading. Rad Shk used to sell a short paperback that would do the trick.

Thanks for the replies.

The fuses are ok, I have checked them must be half a dozen times now.

There is no dash switch for the radio and having the ignition at acc, on, or with the engine running there is still no power.

The radio did work before winter storage, now nothing.

I am completely stumped.
