DC Power upgrade

Hi there everyone,

So we have a 2003 Allegro Bus that has a Freedom Model 20 (2000 Watt) Inverter/Charger that came OEM with the rig. We live full time in the rig, but many days out of the month, we are at home, with the rig parked under trees to keep the rig cool in the summer time as we go to our brick and mortar jobs. So, the charging functionality of the Freedom 20 is good. The inverter side however is what bothers us, we do get a hum out of electronics when we run on the inverter and are concerned the Microwave is compromised using the Modified sign wave of the inverter. We are looking at putting solar on the rig to use for keeping the batteries charged when we are boon docking which we enjoy, but parked under the trees, they will not really charge the battery bank.

So, our question is, what have some of you done out there as far as equipment selection to maybe upgrading a similar setup so that you were able to keep the house batteries charged, but also to provide a "Pure" sign wave power to your devices in your rig. We only need 2000 watts, nothing more. We've seen there is a Pure sign product by Freedom, but it is $1,100. So, if you have other suggestions, we'd love to hear about it.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Safe Travels!

Balking at $1100 immediately takes you out of the PSW inverter/ charger class. The only one I would replace it with is a Magnum MS-2000, and it hovers around $1500.

Barring that you're going to have to replace the inverter only, attempt to locate a standalone inverter space somewhere in the area, and do what could end up being some significant rewiring. But if you're up for that, look at GoPower

If you are getting a hum from electronics, maybe your inverter has a problem. All of your original appliances should work fine if all is right with the inverter. If you have any newer / portable electronics that don't like the MSW you can operate them from a small standalone PSW inverter for about $100.00. This is what we do with the DW's sewing machine.

Nothing "likes" a square wave MSW inverter. TV's (not all) can hum, radios, the MW really doesn't like them. I blew out my back and brought a heating pad and back massager and burned both of them out. Likewise electric blankets, and any number of things with switching power supplies.

Some say they never have problems but I guarntee there are few electronics that don't have some issue, visable or not in dealing with a square wave
