Today I went to check on my RV batteries and I noticed that my now 2 year old Echo-charger did not flash. No light - nothing.

Manual states that if no light is visable at any time i should check that fuses are intact. Done - check, both OK. Also checked all 3 connections (batteries and ground). Done - everything OK and ship-shape.

Echo-charger is a sealed unit so I can't take it apart (I wouldn't know what to do anyway ).

Can I in any way check if it is in fact dead or should I just go and dump it?

The instructions for your charger state if no LED check the fuse and your battery connection on HOUSE battery.
May want to check ground connections also.

Thank you for your reply.

I have checked all connections including the ground. They are all good.

Yesterday I called Xantrex and spoke to a technician who started off saying that he had never actually seen an Echo-charger. He then asked me if I had checked all connections and fuses which I confirmed. He then proceeded to "declare my Echo-charger dead" and advised me to go ahead and buy another one since these are units can not be serviced/repaired.

I asked him if the life expectancy of the Echo-charger shouldn't be longer than 2 years, to which he replied that he had heard of some lasting more than 10 years whereas others would "give up the ghost" a lot quicker. Have the Echo-charger really been on the marked for 10 years?

I don't think I will replace my charger with a Xantrex Echo-charger.

I am just browsing for a new trickle charge devise and is coming across this one - the Trik-L-Charger. It would appear that this device is now installed as a standard on all Winnebago motorhomes.

The price of the Trik-L-Charger is just over 1/3 of the price of the Xantrex Echo-charger (under $50).

Any reason why I shouldn't use this as a replacement? I would have thought that if Winnebago deem this charger good enough to install in all their products it should be an OK product????

I've had a Trik L Charge on my Bounder for 2 years with no problems, go for it.

I owe Xantrex an apology - no reservations.

I was fuming that my Echo-charger had stopped working. I had checked and double checked all connections and I was 100% positive that my unit had seized.

Today I went out with the aim to tear out and discard my failed Echo-charger. I took out the fuses and proceeded to cut away the tape I had applied to secure all wires coming from the unit.

Then I come across 2 more wire connections that I didn't realize was there. One of them appeared loose. I take it apart and then reconnect it. The Xantrex unit starts flashing again

I made a mistake which I have now corrected but having doubted the product now proves to be an injustice.

My Xantrex unit now works again and it was only down to my own stupidity that I encountered this problem. Sorry Xantrex!!
