Diesel Engine oil check

Just bought our 2004 Fleetwood Diesel push. Before the purchase dealer told us it had been serviced including oil & filter change including the transmission fluid. After about a 1000 miles, I just checked the oil in both the engine and generator. Both look black. Have no experience with diesel, last sales guy told me that's normal with diesel. TRUE?

Not always 100% but maybe 98% of the time, yes.
Also depends on your motor. Anything that uses motor oil for it's HEUI system will turn it black way faster, whereas any other style that doesn't use motor oil for anything but lubrication, won't be as black, as fast.

Spend up to $40.00 dollars and have your oil tested. This will answer all of your question. Better to be sure then to hope your dealer is telling you the truth. I know my dealer was full of it and it was not oil either. But really, it is not a bad idea to have the engine and transmission oil test and it does not cost you much. I pay $18.00 at my CAT dealer to test my oil and $18.00 for the transmission for a total of $36.00. Well worth it plus a piece of mind.

Hydraulic actuated, electronically controlled, unit injector.

Good info on it. Granted it's for International's motor in Fords, but Cats work the same way.
