Do automatic steps run on chassis or house batteries?

I've read and heard that the electric entry steps on an MH are powered by the chassis batteries. However, I've removed my house batteries in order to replace them and the steps are not extending/retracting. Is it different for different rigs? I have a 2004 Tiffin Allegro Bus 38TGP. Thanks.

It's very likely that it is different for different rigs but my Kwikee electric entry step also runs off the house batteries.

I believe they run on coach but use both ,such as when you turn on ignition the steps retract.

It totally depends on how the chassis builder wires them. On our old Itasca, the steps ran off the chassis battery. On our Tiffin, they run off the house batteries.

Just a final note if anybody is curious... The steps in the 2004 Tiffin
Allegro Bus 38TGP run off of the house batteries. Actually, I'm surprised as some of the things that are powered by the house batteries (i.e. back up camera). Anyway, that's what I got.

On my 2015 Bay Star, they're connected to both. With no house batteries, usually they go out but not always.

And occasionally they'll go in, but not always.

I think their controller gets confused if it doesn't have full power, and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
