Dometic 15kBTU/HR AC LOUD

We have a new FREEDOM EXPRESS ULTRA LITE 204, purchased about a week ago.

The new Dometic 15 kBtu/hr roof ac is to loud for comfort, we can't turn it on and talk inside.

Is there some way to slow down the fan - we can live with much less air movement once the initial cooling is complete.

Thank you, Stu

We added these last year! So quiet now, however you must have a ducted system. Check out https://wackoproducts.com/

The thermostat has controls for fan speed. Deselect Auto and manually select Low on Fan setting.

AC loud

I also installed the Wacko product and the noise reduction is unreal. Hugh

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I agree that changing the fan speed to low will greatly reduce the noise, BUT, in some cases, depending on humidity and temperature, the compressor may freeze up with the fan on low! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Thank you for the replies.

Our system is non-ducted - but maybe I could add ducts? Seems a hard way to quiet the units for our situation.

I understand that slowing down the fan may lead to evaporator icing - but living with it this way may lead to insanity

I guess I'm really looking for a quieter unit to replace this one.

Is anyone building an inverter unit that is variable speed? We replaced our whole house unit with an inverter unit and can't hear it running at all.

You should be able to set the fan on AUTO /LOW. Auto just means it cycles on and off with the compressor.

There are three cooling settings on my new Dometic air conditioner - no instruction or instruction document was provided by the selling dealer, but the settings seem to be,

"fan only: high, medium, and low - heat (optional) - and cool low, medium and high"

On low, the unit reminds me of my college days when I worked at an aircraft builder's wind tunnel - on low, you could hear it running a few blocks away. This isn't that loud, but you can't have a conversation on low cool. It is uncomfortable to be in the RV on high cool.

When we first plug in, we turn it on high and leave the RV to complete set-up. A few minutes later we turn it to low cool for the duration.

The compressor has 1 speed - but actually isn't very loud above the fan.

I don't think it is broken, just badly designed.

We are resigned to replace it and are hoping to find an inverter a/c like the one we have at home - 61 db at maximum and in the 40's on normal low operation.

Thanks for the ideas
