I recenlty bought a used travel trailer with a Dometic Duo-Therm A/C unit. The first time I took it camping the start capacitor blew. I've had it replaced and it seems to run OK but the blower takes about 1 minute to kick in full blast. It's a ducted unit. Is this normal? The fan spins freely by hand and it doesn't sound odd while it's running.

First of all let me guess that you have a Starcraft Aruba? I bought one new back in 2003 and it was nothing but problems. I would fix one problem and something else would happen. I will tell you that the biggest problem I had was with the A/C unit. It became such an issue that I actually traded it in and bought a pop-up camper just to decrease my stress level. Evrytime I tried to get help I was always told to contact the dealer. Best of luck and Happy Camping!

baumdrop,

Does the fan come on right away, but it takes a while for the compressor to kick in?

Do you by any chance have a t-stat with a digital display (little window) controlling the A/C? If you do, it has a built-in 2 minute time delay for the A/C compressor when you first turn it on.

This time delay is imposed to protect the compressor from trying to start against a head of compression. The delay allows the compressor to bleed down. In the event of a short term power failure and restart, this delay is very important.

Hope this helps.

The blower comes on right away but at a slow speedd. I'm pretty sure the compressor is coming on right away too. I timed it and after 1 minute the blower kicks into normal operation speed.

Hi baumdrop,
Sound like it just needs cleaning and a little oil,you did not say what year it is or model, but some A/C units have an oil hole/ lube point on the fan motor, disconnect all power turn A/C switch on, (discharge capactior's )remove the cover on the roof A/C and clean the coils and lube the motor, blow everything out with air and use some coil cleaner if you have any, check all connections and it should work better. let us know whats up.
Richard
