Dometic ref w/ice maker

I have a Dometic refrigerator with an ice maker and have never used it (ice maker). Does anyone have one that they use and how is it? Can you run water thru it to get fresh water into it when you get to the campground? I'm thinking about buying one of the portable ones but if the one in the refrigerator is good then I will just use it. Thanks for your input.

We use ours

Ours works just fine. But if your freezer temp is not cold enough it will be a problem. Whenever a fresh batch of cubes is called for warm water goes into the freezer and raises the overall temp.

If you have a Norcold look up 'Muddypaws mod' on this site. My freezer typically stays at -15 to -18 F. Very good for making cubes. IMHO anything above 0F is not good.

I have a Norcold 1200 and it makes great ice no problems. I plug in the ice maker (AC)

My Dometic (two door) ice maker works fine. Freezer compartment is best part of refrig. Boondocking in hot weather is a real problem with both sides but especailly regular refrig side. I am sure it is because it is openned more. I would love to have resiential refrig but not until this Dometic goes out.

We have a Norco 1200, the ice maker works fine but only after it gets cold. We find it you have water in your fresh water tank & are driving with the fridge on with the inverter you will have ice when you get where you are going. If you don't carry water in your tank it will not work.
We also carry a portable ice maker. I can turn it on when we get where we are going and it makes ice really quickly, I always carry 2gal of water from home to dump into the portable. This give the ice maker in the fridge time to get cold & start making its ice....would not be without the portable.

We have a Dometic NDR1292 Double Door. The ice maker works great and has for ten years yours should as well. Ours quit for the first time last year and I went through the trouble shooting guides and found it easy to check the system out. Then suddenly the thing began working again and has every since. I have a spare solenoid valve as a result. I think there is something to the fact that your freezer must hit a low enough temperature for it to work properly.
