Dometic has issued a voluntary recall with the NHTSA for over 926,000 refrigerators. There is a chance that if there is a coolant leak while running on propane, there could be a fire. All the details of this recall are in 7 documents posted on the Yahoo Newmar Owners files site. Here's a link:

DOMETIC REFER RECALL

As of today, this is the most current information. The kits to repair the problem will not be available until April of 2007.

The two documents you show are two of the seven I posted on Yahoo. I've been following this recall closely as my Mountain Aire is included in the recall and, frankly, it scares the h*** out of me.

If you're talking about the documents I pasted in the Yahoo /Newmar forum they include both PDF and Word documents. A total of 7 different pieces involving 17 pages. There are letters from Dometic, their attorneys, and letters from the NHTSA. I pulled the documents from different web sites so I couldn't even give you just one link to the originals. I don't know how I would be able to put them on IRV2 easily. That's why the link to yahoo made more sense. If there's a place / folder on IRV2 I can paste each document to, I'd be glad to do that.

Jack,

I understand, I didn't realize how comprehensive the information was. Thanks for the link.

I've pulled three additional documents off the NHTSA site re: the Dometic recall. They are a copy of the letter being sent to customers, the reimbursement procedure, and the method to find your serial number and turn off the gas. The link to these files is:

Dometic shipped 2 of the repair kits on Friday. One is being installed in a unit in our park in Florida. I told my friend about the problem and he really put the heat on Dometic. They spent 2 hours on the telephone with the resident, certified, and experienced repair technician. The parts were shipped overnight air.

The kit will be installed on Monday or Tuesday. I will let everyone know about the process. It is my humble opinion that Dometic now realizes the size of the problem and are expediting the repair process.

We have over 35 units in our park. It is our hope that Dometic may send kits to repair all of the units. It will be MUCH cheaper to use a technician with a lower labor rate, no travel time, experience doing many units, etc.

We do not know how many repair kits they have produced. I assume that this is still prototype and not a major production kit.

More information in a few days.

The unit was shipped and installed in about 30 Minutes. They will NOT ship additional units. Dometic will release the repair kits in April. Dealers are not going to be happy with the labor to replace and submit the necessary paperwork.

Happy Trails!

I just had mine checked by Dometic, and although my serial number fell within their designated recall, the model number did not and so I was not affected. Good news to me, but I can see how confusing this is going to be.

We have strated doing the recall kits. They arrived at the end of last week and have completed several on our lot. First customer coming in this week for theirs to be done. You may want to check with your local repair center for scheduling a date & time. Good luck.
