Dometic refer won't stay lit on lp

I have a dometic NDA 1402, when I unplug it switches to lp and only runs 10 to 20 minutes. If I switch it over manually it stays lit for about an hour. I tried cleanng the orifice and the electrical connections that feed the lp solenoid. Thanks, Bruce

Is it staying cold, otherwise? If you leave it alone does it eventually kick back on? Maybe its getting cold enough and the thermostat is shutting it off. Otherwise check the overheat thermostats on the chimney.

Thanks all, Yes I have a full LP tank, I do not have a thermo coupler but I may have a heat sensor in the chimney. It does not kick back on, when its off for a while the check LP light comes on. I may try installing a board....Bruce

Norcold and Dometic both have a known problem with the burners with their 10+ cu ft and larger reefers. Have the burners inspected thoroughly for small cracks and fractures especially where it has been welded or soldered.

So if you flip it to manual, if will not have issues?
And on auto, it has issues?
Is your inverter on and feeding bad/not truck 120V power to the outlet for the heating element?
What is your DC voltage when having issues?

The thermal sensor is located where your flame for burner is, the sensor will build up carbon deposits and needs to be cleaned when this happens.
Use a soft cloth with some contact spray on it and wipe the sensor.

Yes I do have issues on manual, it just seems to stay lit longer when I switch it manually. Cleaning the thermal sensor is next on my list. By the way, what is contact spray? Thanks for the replies.....Bruce

Contact spray is available at quto parts stores, radio shack and Fry's electronics. It's a special spray that leaves no residue.

How did you clean the orofice? I took the end of my gas tube off and soaked it in alcohol. The instructions say to not use a toothpick or needle to clean. Just soak it. Mine acted strange as if something was shutting the fuel off and indeed it was.

Thought it might be a good idea to press the on button for just a second with the end of the orofice off. NOT NOT NOT> a good idea. There were no more living insects within twenty feet and fruit of the loom stock went up. In one second there was a huge fireball. I turned the button off again and the fireball went away.

You should be able to measure voltage on the propane control solenoid to see if it is activated under the no working conditions. Take a reading while it is working then one when it quits. If there is voltage when it quits then no circuit board needed. Carefully sniff for propane of course for safety.

I just read an article on refer maintenance in an rv magazine, it said to use carburator cleaner to clean the orifice, I used seafoam (because it worked wonders on my boat carburator) I gave it a 2nd soaking in alcohol then let it air dry. Sorry to hear about your fruit of the looms.....Bruce

The Laundry Fairy manages to get the skid marks out usually. Still not good for the BP. Just testing the Cardios repair job on the ticker. It was cool though. Wish I had a picture. BOOM! Poor spiders, and a terrible way to dust the vent area.
