We first of all got my first weekend of camping at Thousand Trails in Advanced NC. Things went pretty well with the exception of the refrigerator did not work properly. This is a 1991 so that does not surprise...I need to find out what is wrong. It got pretty cold in the freezer but the refrigerator compartment stayed pretty warn and actually some food spoiled...Any suggestion on this...

The venting tip above is a good one. Another possibility is that the thermistor is bad or out of place - that's the gadget clipped to the cooling unit fins. ANothe ris simply that the door seals are bad, a common problem on an old fridge. Close the door on a fairly new dollar bill and see if you feel any resistance as you pull the bill out. If not, your fridge is probably leaking a lot of warm air inside.

Last, try not to open the door a lot. An absorption fridge doe snot recover temperature fast like a residential fridge, so lots of door opening - or holding the door open while you think about what you need - is really hard on the cooling cycle.

Another tip worth mentioning is to "pre-cool" your food items. Never place room temperature items inside. The heat will bring up the refer temps and have a hard time recovering. I turn "ON" the fridge 2 days before departure and place a large pan of ice cubes in both fridge and freezer compartments in order to pre-cool the appliance. Replacing as they melt. I wait 2 days before I stock it with food (with pre-cooled items from my home fridge).

Also don't "over stock" and block air current from circulating vertically over the fins. Stand top shelf items vertically where possible to allow up and down circulation.

Summertime travel in the South necessitates running the fridge while driving. Even tho insulated, it takes a long time to recover if "off" for 3 hours or so.

On my Dometic I've added both an internal & external fan for supplemental help in extreme hot weather conditions.

RV Mobile, RV and Gas Refrigerators

This is the best link I have ever found concerning refrigerators ......
It is the best for resolving a problem with your unit and it has drawings and tech help that a child can understand ....
Give it a look and take the time to ''read'' and you will get a better understanding on how your unit works and ''why it may not be working''
If you use this information you must pay me ten cents the next time you see me........ of course on the other hand ..... if it dont help ... I NEVER KNEW YOU .....LOL....
God bless our troops and bring them home soon and safe
God bless our vets ALL GAVE SOME SOME GAVE ALL

(question...... can anyone tell me exactly why we have troops in Afghanistan?)
