I have a new Skyline Nomad 26 foot TT. Is it normal for the refrigerator to hum for a few minutes every so often? It is cooling normally. It is running on electric and I hear it in the unit. I thought it might be the inverter but do believe it is the fridge. Thanks

I have never heard any sound from my fridge. Dometic has a recall on some fridge models that catch fire when used in electric mode. I would call Dometic or search online.

I agree. I've had two Dometic fridges and neither one has ever made a sound while either on propane or electric. I would call Dometic directly for added peace of mind. Here's the number: 1-800-544-4881. Here's their email: CustomerSupportCenter@DometicUSA.com

The recall mentioned above started for 2-door units built from 1997 - 2003, then was expanded to include some units built through 2006 (I would be surprised if you had a fridge that old in a new rig, but you never know). However, here's that link for more information:

Official Dometic Recall - DometicUSA

Be very careful as these fridges, while used for years in RVs, trailers, etc., can also pose a fire risk when they have a component that is not working properly. Many of the posts on the 'net talk about Norcold fridges having issues, but the technology is essentially the same in a Norcold and Dometic fridge.

Be careful and be safe!

Thanks. It does it both on gas and electric. Not sure if it is a fan running behind the unit or the inverter. I turned the fridge off and I still heard it for about a minute or so. It sounds like it is at the top just behind the freezer back wall. It cycles on and off. I am under warranty so I called the dealership to bring it in.

I have a Norcold but I think it works the same as a Dometic with regards to the fans. Open the reefer door, if the hum stops then starts again when you close the door, it's the fans.

I just called Dometic after reading your post on a fan. The newer models have a fan that is an upgrade. I was advised that it is the fan that cycles on and off and that it is normal. Thanks for your input and help. Greatly appreciated!
