Dometic toilet flush valve leaks...sorta

So I have a Sealand model 111. Flush valve was replaced last year. Now it has weird leak.
If we flush gently with the foot pedal it develops a slow drip. If I lift my foot fast so the valve shuts off hard, it doesn't leak.
I think it is the black plastic cap on the bottom.
It is this valve:

Can I tighten that black cap? I don't want to break it off, so I'm wondering if that cap on the bottom screws on.
I know I can just replace the valve for $35 but we are on a month long trip right now.
I already snug up the 2 mounting screws and hose clamp.

The answer is "yes" the black cap can be tightened and the leak should stop if the housing/threads are not cracked.

I had the experience a couple of years ago when, during a few unsually cold 20 degree nights in the Houston area that water in the valve froze and cracked the bottom of the flush valve. Water dripped out of the bottom of valve from between the cap and valve body. Tightening the cap did not stop the drip which is when I found the hairline crack in the cap thread area. Until I could replace the valve I simply placed a small Ziplock plastic container and towel under the valve to catch the drip.

Thanks Mike. Sounds like I should unscrew it and let any water drain out when I winterize this year.
