carefree motor on awning

dcfd, what You are going to find is the motor may have water in it.
I had the same thing happen to the motor on Our big awning on the side of Our MH.
1st. check the fuses in the panel box on the drivers side out side.
then check it You have any voltage going from the swithch to the motor.
If You do, then check the motor by taking the out side cover off and seeing if You have voltage, when You push the swithch that goes to the motor, if You do then You will have to replase the motor.
I hope I have helped.

Water

Somewhere in thes forum there is a post about drilling a drain hole in the motor to fix it, if that is indeed the problem. The OP didn't give us much to go on.

Does the motor click & spin, no response at all? What?

Where to start

Check the fuse first. Then find out if power is getting to the motor. If it is then the motor is probably bad.

If it isn't then the switch is probably the problem.

Another way to test the motor is with a 12 to 18v drill battery.

Had the same thing happen...

...and the problem was this: When powered on, the torque from the motor, caused it to turn and when it did, it would push against the electrical power connector(very bad design BTW). Over time, the insulator cracked from the pressure, which caused the connection to short out and blow the fuse.

Replace the fuse, turn on the awning, and if you get some movement at the awning, and then no power because of a blown fuse, most likely you have the same problem.

Easy fix, just remove the cover, bend the electrical connection over so that the motor can not contact it when "torqued."

While this advice is freely given, it cost me a $100 to find it out!

Loose motor

Bubwheat,

The motor shouldn't move.

On mine the motor would move as you describe because all three of the motor mount screws had become loose. Eventually the movement caused the D shape of the roller cap to become an O. It's made out of what's been called pot metal.

I suggest taking the motor mounting screws out and using LocTite Red on them. You may be able to do this without removing the awning, or maybe at least two of the screws.

$157 lesson also offered for free. Is this a great site or what?

If you pull the switch check voltage to make sure there is power if so its the motor. I found out when I replaced mine carefree does not sell direct. It's not to bad to replace I took mine down to repair.
