Dorm Fridge

Anyone want to throw an opinion in on why I need a fridge built specifically for TT and RV as opposed to just a good sized dorm fridge? We never used the propane on the fridge with the old camper. I just don't see spending 1000 bucks on a fridge when I can buy a really nice dormer for a couple hundred.

I replaced Dometic in a class A with 4.5CF Two door top freezer from Lowes used it for 5- 6 yrs with no problems. If you get it real cold and dont open the door to much it will keep contents cool for at least 8 Hrs or put Ice in lower part of frige. The unit will require very little framing - Framed mine on Lowes parking lot. They took old one out after I removed screws & gas line. I have just put one in an old class C and did it on Lowes Parking lot. The only problem tha I can find is They dont get real cold 35-40 degrees in low tempertures as it is designed for in door use. The unit I used was Frigidaire 4.5 cu ft The only framing I had to do was on top I used a 1x12 finished oak board screwed to face of frige to cover opening. I then used L brackets in rear left & right corners then drilled a hole in bottom steel pan and anchored with screw(s) Any questions let me know.

Forgot -Old dometic was a 2306 I think. All so I said Oak board screwed to face of frige I meant notch board for hinge and pushed down on top edge then screwed to cut out. I am sure you knew all this but thought I would just tell you how I did it.

Lots of folks have done exactly that.

If you don't need the propane option, then it's a great solution.

Thanks. An old dorm fridge is what we have in there now. It's on it's last legs and I was debating on replacing it with something more original but I think I'm going to buy a nice new dorm fridge.

This thing is getting to be almost as fun to work on and customize as it is to go camping with.
