I have a Duo-therm 600 series Penguin which has developed a recent problem. The blower won't blow. The compressor works, but the circuit breaker trips shortly after the blower should kick on. The blower doesn't come at at all if I just set it to blower, but it is drawing current. Is ther anything here that I can check out myself without taking it to a service center? It is only 2 years old and has been used infrequently.

Either the blower motor is frozen or stuck from non-use or the start capacitor is bad. First thing to do is to go up top and remove the cover. Cover is held on by some screws under the edge or nuts on top. From here you can see the condenser and fan. Try turning the fan by hand....POWER IS OFF... Does it spin freely? You may try a little oil (not WD 40) on the motor shaft and turn it by hand a few times.

Now go inside and turn the unit to blower or fan only and see if it starts. If not, it is either a bad motor or capacitor.

I can't thank you enough, Ken. This forum is fantastic. I removed the cover, and the blower was a little difficult to get started, but then turned freely. I lubricated it, and it runs fine now.

Best part of this is it is all free for the asking. Hope it keeps you going a while.
