Duo Therm fan motor

New to RV'ing and on our first family trip...I'm on the road and my Duo Therm 57915 started squealing over night... The air speed was reduced during the squealing too. I turned off the unit and believe the blower/fan motor is going out.

Can that be replaced? Or am I in for a new unit?

It is on a 2005 Gulfstream that has been sitting for a while...

Any help locating the correct part would be supremely appreciated!!

Thanks!

You'll have to look at it to be sure but it is most likely this:

Dometic A/C Penguin Fan Motor Service Kit - Air Conditioner Repair Parts - Air Conditioners - RV Appliances

WARNING - on your vintage of Duotherm the labor is pretty high. It's not an easy motor replacement. Between parts and labor you may want to think about an entire new top unit.

If you have any repair skills this can be a do it yourself job.

My motor was starting to kick the breaker pulling high amperage. It also was louder.

Finally took the time to check and the motor was hard to turn by hand. Bought a motor and replaced myself. Not too hard of job and the AC is still working +4 years later. Cost me ~$100.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Yes, you can replace the fan motor.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

So this motor would drive the fan that moves air inside the coach correct?

OK- finally got the motor service kit and climbed up on the roof and began to remove the cowling and bracing around the motor.... decided to give the fan a spin to see if I could feel any resistance.

It spun free without any noise or hint of a problem... yelled down to my spouse to start the genset and try to turn on the AC.

It fired right up!?

Wish I would have kept trying it on our trip to Palo Duro Canyon last week.

I took the time to clean the coils and clear all of the dirt and leaves out of the area.... so not a total waste of time.

So, I am going to keep the kit in the storage bay for the next time we are traveling and it decides to make noise. I have a new capacitor, fan motor, and both fan blades.... Outside of a cooling issue I should be ready.

Another blower problem...

Hey Guys
I posted about this In a seperate thread about a week ago, but received no replies.

My MH front Duotherm heat pump blower runs for about 3 or 4 minutes, then cuts out. This happens even in fan-only mode. The shaft spins freely and I replaced both caps.
The motor runs fairly hot to the touch and seems to draw a few amps more current than the one in the rear, acording to the conto panel. I'm kind of at my wits end and ready to replace the motor unless someone has some other ideas. If I knew where the control box is, I'd check relays etc, but I can't find it [2005 HR Ambassador 40 PLQ).

Any ideas?

Joe

Well, I finally got around to replacing the moter and that's what it was. I thought Id have it done in a couple hours, but it took all day because the squirrel cages were rust-bound to the motor shafts. After much PB Blaster and cursing, I ended up taking all the sheet metal apart, cutting the shaft at the motor and putting the remaining assembly on the bench. Finally put it together and hooked it up and it runs fine. Had to cut access holes in the sheet metal to allow access to the set screws on the blower hubs. What a job!
