I've noticed if I don't turn off my duotherm AC/heat pump the compressor - no fan - will kick in even if the temp condition hasn't been met. Whats going on with that?

I notice it usually when the AC has been running during the day. Then after it cools at night it won't kick in, I'll forget its on, go to bed and then the compressor only kicks in sometime in the middle of the night when temps are nowhere near turn-on temp.

Whats with that?

Thanks....Greg

If I understand the problem correctly, the compressor just starts and nothing else happens. Correct? If this is the case I have the same problem on my 1999 King of The Road 5th wheel. I have even disconected all the wires on the thermostat and the compressor starts up every few minutes and runs about one minute and shuts off, then the cycle rewpeats itself. It must be some type of pressure switch that tells the compressor to start even though the thermostat does not tell it anything.

Welcome both of you to irv2.
I have some links that may help you as to way your problem exists.
There is a valve or pressure switch that could be at fault.
5 button trouble guide
4 button trouble guide

Here is a post that may help

First step is to do what Phil did. Disconnect the thermostat and see what happens. Disconnect first at the 'stat end. If the problem goes away, it points to the 'stat.

If no change, disconnect at the AC end. If the problem goes away, it points to the wiring.

IF, as I suspect, neither eliminates the problem it's probably in the AC unit. Something causing the compressor relay to trigger. That would be more advanced troubleshooting.
