My furnace/heat pump can be activated in either gas or electric mode. Naturally I prefer to use electric so I don't have to refill the propane every few days from starting the furnace every morning (it's in the 40s and 50s in the early morning here on the Oregon coast).
My control panel has shows "gas heat" and "elec heat", separated by one "click". For some reason, I haven't been able to use the electric portion the last two mornings as the gas comes on automatically despite the switch being in the electric mode. I have the thermostat set at 64 and when I get up I set it to 70. That's when it goes to gas. I've also tried to set the thermostat to 69 thinking that there might be a five degree limitation from electric to gas, but that didn't work either.
Any ideas?
