I have the Progressive Industries EMS system installed. I am at a campground with 30 amp service and I keep getting the power bumped off with an Error Code 7 which is high frequency. I can plug in on the other side of the post and don't have any problem but someone else is coming in to take that spot and plug in. When the power is bumped off I have observed 62, 65 and up to 73 hertz in the digital display. The campground people don't have a clue what I'm talking about and I'm not educated enough about electrical circuits to know what the cure is. Do we have an electrical engineer out there?

The freq is the electrical wave. Change sites, your progressive is doing what it is supposed to do. If you cut the progressive unit off it will be a mistake s/Toby

I wonder if loose connections could cause a harmonic frequency that the EMS is detecting?

Here's an explanation of Electic Frequency/Hertz, probably more than you want to know.

Frequency is the measurement of the number of times that a repeated event occurs per unit time. To calculate the frequency, one fixes a time interval, counts the number of occurrences of the event within that interval, and then divides this count by the length of the time interval.

In SI units, the result is measured in hertz (Hz) after the German physicist, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz. 1 Hz means that an event repeats once per second. Other units that have been used to measure frequency include: cycles per second, revolutions per minute (rpm). Heart rate is measured in beats per minute.

An alternative method to calculate frequency is to measure the time between two consecutive occurrences of the event (the period) and then compute the frequency as the reciprocal of this time: f=1/T where T is the period.

Frequency of waves Measuring the frequency of sound, electromagnetic waves (such as radio or light), electrical signals, or other waves, the frequency in hertz is the number of cycles of the repetitive waveform per second. If the wave is a sound, frequency is what characterizes its pitch.

Frequency has an inverse relationship to the concept of wavelength. The frequency f is equal to the speed v of the wave divided by the wavelength λ (lambda) of the wave:

In the special case of electromagnetic waves moving through a vacuum, then v = c, where c is the speed of light in a vacuum.

NOTE: When waves travel from one medium to another, their frequency remains more or less the same - only their wavelength and/or speed changes.

Examples The frequency of the standard pitch tone A above middle C is nowadays set at 440 Hz that is 440 cycles per second (or slightly higher) and known as concert pitch, after which an orchestra is tuned. A baby can hear tones with oscillations up to approximately 20,000 Hz, but these frequencies become impossible to hear at maturity. In Europe the frequency of the alternating current is 50 Hz (close to the tone G), with 230 V of rated voltage. In North America the frequency of the alternating current is 60 Hz (close to the tone B flat), with 117 V of rated voltage.

As RV Wizard suggested, I would have the CG electrician, if they have one, check all the connections in the pedestal. If they do not have one then move to another site.

But in no way bypass the Progressive EMS and run without protection.

Ron

Thanks to all for the replies, especially you Ron. That was quite an education and just what I wanted. I am glad I have the Progressive EMS and I would never bypass it. This is twice it has saved me. The other time was at camp Newmar with high voltage just before the recepticle fire was reported.

If you are connected to commercial power I can assure you that the frequency is NOT changing.

AS Wizard stated something else may be happening that is triggering it to signal a problem. But the frequency is not going anywhere near where the readout is showing.

I synchronize generators to "The grid" on a regular bassis as part of my job at the power plant. So I know well what happens if you have the generator just a L I T T L E fast or slow (One or two herz) when you close the breaker.

Harm,

I too have the Progressive EMS and it has saved my coach numerous times. Once from lightning that hit the CG transformer that took out the EMS and it had to be sent back to Progressive for repair. Progressive just replaced it with a new one, No Charge, and it was out of warranty. I even explained to them what happened and they said that it did what it was supposed to do, saved my coach wiring and electronics.

It has also saved the coach from switched neutral(once) and several high/low voltage occasions. It is much more than just a surge protector that I have found invaluable for the protection of the electric wiring and electronic components in the coach.

Ron
