Electrical Problem

When running the generator everything works as expected. However, if I am only connected to shore power no outlets or appliances work including the converter. This has suddenly come up with no changes.

The other odd thing is that I tested the outlets and my tester says the hot and ground are reversed (only when connected to shore power). Reads correct when running off of generator.

Using a non contact voltage tester, the black wires leading from the breaker all show voltage. I also checked the black wire as it goes into the converter and it shows voltage in but no 12 volt power coming out.

I observed the operation of the generator/shore power transfer switch and it appears to operate as expected.

I don't know what else to check any ideas?

Is it a 30 or 50 amp outlet or are you plugged into a GFCI outlet at home. If at home, the house GFCI may have tripped or wired wrong.

Otherwise, start at the outlet and follow the power towards the RV.

Agree^^.

All circuits in RV had worked previously, both on generator and shore power. Now, something is amiss and the only change is where you are connected to shore power.

Begin troubleshooting from the shore outlet. Since all circuits work properly on generator, your RV circuits are good. The only "new" elements are the shore outlet and the power cord, with its connectors, to the transfer switch. Don't assume the transfer switch is working properly just because it "appears" to. Test the voltage in and out of the TS when on shore power if you cannot discover any fault upstream to the power outlet.

Thanks,

Following from the house supply, the connection at the RV showed some heat damage (probably arc from unsecured connection). I took it apart and the female neutral connection was fried and I think not completing the circuit.

It seems to me my tester should have read this as an open neutral but I have ordered new connectors and will see if that cures issue.
