Might have a new one here. I'm looking to install an external am/fm antenna on my 5er. Is just using a regular automotive antenna with an adapter at the receiver or is there a better way to do it? Thanks

If your rig is pre-digital TV then you have a perfect FM antenna built in! The old style TV antennas are specifically designed to be great at FM reception, as the TV channels used to broadcast their audio on FM. AM is not as much of a concern as most radios have ferrite core antennas built in, however AM specific antennas are available and are essential if you listen to world band. You might check out Categories within Antennas - MCM Electronics Product Categories to see if there is anything there you like.

my rig came with an outside entertainment center (an am/fm/cassette stereo with speakers in a side compartment). the antenna was a small rubber whip on top of the coach. of course the whip was rusted off at the swivel joint. so i just drilled a hole on the top of the swivel and stuck in a 31" stainless steel rod, with a setscrew to hold it in place. i keep the new whip folded down along the top of the coach and it works fine. if i need better reception i can raise it to the vertical position. but, to answer your question, yes, a plain old car antenna works fine.
