Fixed my Washer\Dryer drain problem

I thought I would pass this along to my other RVer’s. You have been so helpful in my understanding of my rig and systems and on more than one occasion you have given me the confidence to tackle my own fixes.

We have a 2000 Monaco Dynasty that we purchased last February. 2 weeks ago we were RVing in Minnesota. We had just about finished a load of laundry in our Splendide Washer/Dryer and it would not drain. The fix was to open the front door of the unit and catch the water in Tupperware and plenty of towels just to get our clothes out.

Yesterday, I went to fix the problem.

I removed all of the items in the storage area above the unit and found an access panel. I pulled up the access panel and it gave me access to the rear of the unit. The first thing I noticed was that the exhaust vent was hanging loose, and not attached.

I disconnected the hot/cold hoses, drain hose and electrical plug. I had to remove the front doors and door catches mounted on the opening. I then had a carpet covered threshold that was held by 2 2-inch screws (screw heads were hidden in the carpet). I removed them and slid the unit out. The unit is 21 inches deep and the walkway was 28 inches. I had a good 3 inches on each side. But, it had to drop 4 inches so I put some rug underneath just to insure that I would not drop it and hurt it or crack some tiles.

I removed the back panel and found the pump, in the lower left rear corner. The pump has a fan on the outside of the unit. The shaft runs through the middle of the pump and attaches to the impellor. I pushed the fan and it would stop half way through the arc. After doing this 2-3 times it moved freely. I was not content to leave it this way because I expected the problem to return some day if I did not find out what had impeded the fan. I took off the hose and put my finger inside, only to find a bent and rusty bobby pin. This had been my problem.

I know that this was a long description and but I hope that you find it helpful and it encourages you to troubleshoot and fix some of the many challenges that you face every day as an RV owner.

You could have removed the bobby pin from the front of the machine. Debris in the pump is not all that uncommon, so Splendide has provided an access port to the front of the pump. At least our machine has one. Take off the bottom front panel (it snaps off), and unscrew the round, black knob at the lower right. The pump impeller is inside. We once had a penny and a plastic label in our pump.

The pump and impeller on my machine is located about 17 inches to the rear of the front access panel and filter. A 1 inch hose runs from the filter to the pump. The bobby pin had somehow passed through or around the filter, traveled down the hose and was lodged in the pump. If the new ones have the pump co-located with the filter, it would have made my job much much easier.

Aha, an improvement has been made to the newer machines. I'm glad you were able to find and correct the problem on your machine. Thanks for sharing.

I'm also glad they are now putting the pump and filter closer to the front with easier access.

I just rebuilt my pump and replaced the two shocks on my 97. Parts service was great from Westland Sales parts are a little pricey.

Thanks for the information. We now have a MH with a combo washer/dryer so I'm interested in the problems & fixes in case we run into a similar situation.
