Fixing a leaky toilet

By golly! I'm finally gonna fix my toilet with the leaky fresh water hose. I pulled the toilet today and can finally see what I need to see to get it fixed. Wood is still in good shape too, since we kept the pump off once the leak was discovered. Gotta tell you though. It don't smell to good when you lift that toilet out and there's a clear passage to the black tank. I will replace most of the water inlet hose and all associated washers. All parts will come from Lowes or Home Depot and some of the plastic hose will be replaced by braided stainless steel hose. It will not leak again.

Ain't it great to jump into a seemingly daunting task and find out you're not in over your head...so to speak. Congrats on the repairs. Bob

So much for plan A. Home depot, nor Lowes carry 5/8" fittings. A local RV dealers parts department helped me out though. The service technician heard me talking to the counter person and knew exactly what I needed. We went back in the shop and he gave me exactly what I needed. Not free, but the price was fair and the service beyond good.

So next step. Put all the pieces together. They went together perfectly! The water feed line is no longer leaking. Now I find out it's more than the water line that was leaking. Dang it! Not as bad as before, but enough that it would cause problems down the road. The heck with it, I'm just gonna replace the whole toilet and be done with it.

I've heard and experienced that a boat is a hole in the water you throw money into. What's the saying for a motorhome.

Replaced the flush valve today. Leak stopped! Yaaay! Noticed hose from vacum breaker got wet while flushing. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Now I gotta unbolt the toilet again and replace the vacum breaker. It'll be a brand new toilet except for the porcelean after this.

I WILL NOT LET A TOILET DEFEAT ME!

Finally fixed and not leaking at all after replacing vacuum breaker. Did get a little scare after doing it though. Seems I pinched water line from vacuum breaker to flush valve and it not only leaked at first, but sprayed. Cut end of hose and reconnected, all good now. I also removed the ball that keeps the bowl filled and cleaned it and the rubber seal. Holds water all night now.

Pretty happy to be done with that little issue.
