I have a Xantrex Link 1000 connected to a Freedom 458 inverter/charger.
Started having problem on my AK trip. (Still not home) I cannot control the inverter/charger form the remote. All kinds of lights lite up under different conditions like shore power, alternator charging, inverting, and or idle.
The Inverter/charger seems to work fine if I use the manual buttons, but must have all connections connected to the remote. I haven't gotten a jumper yet, (good excuse to stop in Vegas ) but am hoping it will work with the jumper with having the remote connected.
1. Does anyone know if the Link 1000 monitoring functions will work without being connected to a Freedom inverter/charger. I might be considering another inverter/charger such as the Xantrex Freedom SW 2000 (3000).
2. If the Link is the problem, what might be my repair options? Does anyone repair them, or are they just throw away? I really like it and they are no longer available!
I am still on the road for a few more days.
Harold

The Link 1000 (and their newer versions) are battery monitors and only connect to the batteries through a shunt. They have nothing to do with the inverter; their role is merely to report the state of charge of your house battery bank in percentage (a fuel guage for batteries!). This is the only good way to monitor your batteries when dry camping. When the Link guage tells you the battery bank is down to 60%, it's time to start your generator and charge them back up.
Voltmeters and ammeters are interesting, but the Link guage tell you the real info you need to know.
Link Lite and Link Pro are the two new products made by Xantrex to replace the Link 1000 and Link 10. Check them out at www.westmarine.com. Their prices are high. Expect to pay about $150.00.
I have one on my boat and I'll soon install one on my Monaco as well. Truly great product, IMHO!
Hope this helphs.

While you have power (shore or generator) unplug the remote data cable from inverter wait about 5 seconds and reconnect. This sould reset any faults.

(sorry for late response, just found my irv2, and other things in my spam box)
Jim,
The Link 1000/2000 are in fact remote controls for the inverter. The newer link lite and pro are monitors only. That said, I like the remote, but may have to settle for the monitor only, which is the most important.

Wizard,
Have done that with no results, other than a different group of LED's lighting up!

I seem to be having similar troubles my Xantrex Heart Interface Freedom 458 20-12 81-2022-12 will not charge the house or chassis batteries while on shore power or generator. However they both will fully charge while being driven. Thus far I have replaced batteries and taken it to 2 different repair shops. Everyone wants to send it in for a diagnosis. I thought thats why I brought it to them. Any ideas would be helpful

While plugged in or with generator running, give the top of the inverter a good rap. There is a microprocessor inside that can have bad connections from the dirt and exposure to all kinds of things electronics do not like. The rap can and might correct the problem temporarily. If it does then you should have a qualified person clean the unit.
They may be small fuse inside that might be blown if you cannot get it to charge with a rap.
Will the inverter invert?
Does the circuits you can power up with the inverter work off shore and generator power?

Ill try the rap first. The cover is going to be difficult to remove due to placement.
I was wondering if it could be a problem with the battery isolator? The unit plugged into shore power seems to charge to house batteries. But drains the chassis battery over time. I seem to be getting more and more confused, every question seems to lead to another question.
