I have a 150 gallon tank in my 07 WW FSC 2800. I usually add about 16 oz of a water treatment when I fill it. I live in Phoenix and we are now pushing 100+ temps, soon to be more.

I was wondering how long you guys typically leave water in your fresh water holding tank? Do you drain it, if you are planning on leaving it set for long?

How often do you need to clean or disinfect the water tank?

Once or twice a year, the coach is not used for a six week period. I drain the tank, during this time. I add a sanitizer to the water when filling after the 6 weeks.

The rest of the year, the coach does not sit for very long. I drain the tank. I refill when we are ready to leave. No sanitizing for these short stays at stick built home.

I found some links to some good information. I guess there are some additives that can be left in the tank to sanitize while still using the water. Does that sound right?

I use the bleach method to sanitize our fresh water tank. We've owned the trailer for 5 years and I sanitized it when we first bought it and I sanitized it this year after taking it out of storage. In my opinion, this is not an annual maintenace issue, unless you know contaminants have gotten into the tank, or you have filled it with some bad tasting water you got somewhere on the road.

Our "home water" is clean, pure and very tasty, so it is easy to tell when we are using water of less quality. Normally, I won't put it in the tank if my outside water source lets me know it tastes different. No, we don't use water filters, mainly because (1) we carry bottled water for drinking, and (2) we preserve our water tank for drinking when the outside water tastes bad.

I bought some cleanser and sanitizer today at a local RV store and flushed the tank and lines. I never did it when I bought it a few months ago, so I figured I would do it now.

It took three flushes of the tank for the process, so I don't intend to do it that often. I figure once every six months, since I will use my rig on and off year round.

AXE, Sodium Dichlor is an efficient way to sanitize your fresh water system and insure bacteria-free water. I am a homebrewer. We use a weaker version of Sodium Dichlor to wash our equipment and bottles. It does not need rinsing, we just wash everything with it and air dry.

I am thinking that is the direction I will go from now on. I like the idea of minimal work and good results.

I live in Arizona where pool supplies are sold at the grocery store, so I figure that will be a good way to go.
