was just trying to figure out what made the cooling unit go bad. Maybe it was plugged. Did you run it off level very often?

It wasn't unplugged for more than an hour or so when we moved from one space to another. I believe it was level for the two months we were at the last park. We've had MH for about 5 months. The fridge has worked fairly well, although the freezer didn't keep ice cream. This is our first real MH so we are a little unexperienced. This is a 2000 Monaco, so we just figured it was old enough to quit, although it WAS used minimally by previous owners. The new one freezes ice cream like a home fridge - hooray. It is a Norcold by the way. The old one was NOT on the recall list.

if you had it for only 5 months and it did not keep icecream hard I bet you are happy now. 12 years of minimal use is not good for a frig because the chenicals they use are corosive and there is something mixed in to keep it from corrding the pipes. so using it should be better for it. I would guess a chunk of rust broke loose when you moved and clogged it up, allthough something was obviously going on before you moved as the freezer was not cold enough. a good woking frig makes rving much more enjoyable so I would say you made a good investment with a new one.

Possibly just rust piled up in the chimney tube. Moving the rv could have flaked it off and then it stacks up and the heat does not get distributed. Of course you are getting new stuff so no worries. The chimney has a S shaped piece of metal suspended by a long rod from the top. They can be difficult to get to and my only be able to feel for it. Lifting it out you can shoot air to clear it. I used a shotgun cleaning rod once and that worked great. That same rust can pile up on the burner itself and cause the same issue. There should be cleaning instructions if you download a manual for it.
