Fried neutral

Our Montana is 50amp/240v. Plugged in the shore power thru a 15 - 50 adapter. Kept tripping the 20 amp breaker in our house. Removed the cover of the 5th wheel electrical panel and found that the main neutral into the bus bar was fried at the bar. No loose wires or fried critters in the panel. Cut, stripped and reattached....everything seems fine now. Took apart the exterior receiver on the 5th wheel and all fine there. Nothing else on the neutral bar was damaged. Not attached to 240v, so can't test W/H or A/C but everything else works. What are the probable causes for that fried neutral wire?

Also, not getting any charge to the batteries. Related issue???

A wire connection screw in the bus bar that was not tightened sufficiently, (aka: was loose), can fry the wire at/in the bus bar.

All 50 amp RVs are 120/240 volt systems. They rarely use 240 volts but its there. It is simply split at the panel.

It is an '06 Keystone Montana. 50 amp 240/120. The loose wire idea might be the culprit. I had no problem lifting the wire out of the buss bar without touching the set screw and can not find any thing else that looks suspicious

thanks

I just replaced a 6 month old transfer switch that was installed by a professional. Same thing, burnt neutral. When I touched the box the wire nut that was used to splice the to short ground fell off and showed signs of a bad connection. I suspect this was my problem. I also encountered loose connections on some of the other wires and will now make this part of my routine inspection to check the torq on all those connections.
