Anyway, new cooling unit works okay, but I think I need to move the thermistor up a bit. Barely satisfactory set on "9". We are in Key West and most days have been in the 80s.
YUP!

That's how they got the better name for them, "NotSoCold".

The recall paperwork ,available from the online source; Norcold Recall ; shows pictures of where to find all the numbers you need , and gives a list of all fridge numbers involved in the recall.
Sounds like you have the fridge modle , but you need serial #, and the number of the cooling unit its self , to be sure if your unit is involved.

42 is not acceptable for a fridge IMHO. 34 is more like it. In the afternoon when the sun is on that side of your coach and the temp goes up, stick your head in the vent/access panel outside and see if both the fans are running. They are computer type pancake fans so not expensive to replace but a PIA to do. If possible you can add a couple somewhere like in the top of the vent. When our fans quit I stuck one of the clip on fans you can buy at an auto parts store in the outside door to keep it going until I could get new fans.

One of the D battery powered fans to recirculate air inside the Norcold might help along with the other suggestions.

Do check the recall list for sure Norcold Recall

According to Food and Health Dep., I believe to safely store food, refrigerators are suppose to be kept between 34-40F. Freezers are suppose to be below 0F (which I've never seen our Dometic reach).

Told you so.....

The same cast of characters respond to anything about Norcold with the same comments every time. I did tell you so, didn't I?

Do try the foam coffee cup trick. It causes the thermistor to respond to fin temp changes just a bit slower and will lower the average temp of the refer about 2F.

My 1201LRIM stays at 34-36F all day long, running on setting 3 or 4, unless my DW leaves it open for a long time. She does the same thing at home and causes that refer to go over 40F too.

Muddypaws, after reading all the whining a while back, I was really worried about the Norcold issues, too, so it's good to see the voice of reason! I have a 1201 (with the recall updates). I keep a thermometer in it that I check periodically. I think I set the temp to six (6) - and it's stays consistently around 35*. And frozen food stays frozen - very frozen! So add me to the list of satisfied owners. And if it burns up, well then, you can take me off the list! :-)

Somethign new for me!

I nearly sprayed coffee all over my monitor!

Never been referred to as the voice of reason before......

I think I should print that and paste it to the refrigerator!

I had no idea there was so much derogatory sentiment about Norcold refers??? We have a two door in our 2004 10' Northland camper with slide out and it freezes ice cubes so hard we have to pound them out of the ice trays. It's been that way since new. We have the 12 cu.ft. four door in our Discovery (been through both Recalls) and the ice cubes are so cold they instantly freeze together when liquid is poured into the glass! We obviously got lucky or we're pouring the right liquid!!

And it's the same cast of characters who consistently and vehemently deny the fact that there are problems with RV fridges, both Norcold and Dometic.

Hopefully, those that have great running RV fridges will continue to do so.

However, for myself and my own personal experience with the POS Boat Anchor Norcold 1200 aka NotSoCold, after dealing with multiple problems over the 9 years of owning the fridge, I for one will NOT have another one in my coach which is also my home.

I now have a fridge which consistently stays at the temperature I set it at. I can control the fridge and freezer compartments separately. The fridge keeps a consistent 35F - 38F degrees. The freezer keeps a consistent -9F - -5F degrees. I do not have to defrost the freezer. I have 50% more storage capacity. The doors don't fall off and the door seals are replaceable without having to purchase a whole new door. And I don't have lousy control boards to replace.
