Phil, the reversing valve coil is energized for the cooling mode so it either has a stuck relay on the board, a stuck valve, a bad T'stat, or a wire is shorted keeping this coil powered up. You could take the shroud off and disconnect the reversing valve coil and turn it on. This should give you heat. If not the valve itself is stuck and you might try tapping on it lightly to see if it will slide to the other end and reverse the flow of refrigerant. Let us know what you find.

Mike,
I think you are on to something , I disconnected the phone wire going to the front ac and left it off for 20-30 mins,I was told this is like rebooting a PC,when I reconnected it the heat pump does have heat BUT now the AC also has heat, what does that switching valve look like and where is it?
Do you have a picture of it.What is my next move?
Phil

If the reversing valve is inoperable the tubing from it will not change in heat to cool mode. It is by the compressor and has four tubes coming off it going to compressor and indoor and outdoor coils. Check to verify that the electric coil on it gets power from the control board in one of the modes; heat or cool. I can't remember which is energized for cooling. If you find you have voltage at the coil, due a continuity test to be sure it is not open or shorted. Let us know what you find.

Well I went up on the roof and took off the cover, had wife turn on the air and I
sat up there looking,I did hear the valve click and the two lower lines at the
rear of the valve were cold and the one line at the front was hot,she went
inside and it was still blowing hot,I gave the valve a good whack or 3 or 4
times and still hot air,my meter stopped working so I can't anything.not sure
where to go from here.I even had her turn on the heat pump and whack it again,no joy.

You will have to have a meter to check for power feeding the reversing valve. If you have power the control board and T'stat are good. Then with the meter set on an ohm scale, ohm out the coil. Bet it is bad.

Well Mike, got home and checked the unit, the reversing valve is BAD,They tell me the cost would be more than a new unit.So I removed it and the ducting and installed a 15k Carrier unit, now it gets cold and ALL the air goes to the frontroom. This SO much better than the ducted system.
Thanks for all the help.
