Full wall slide sputters

Our full wall slide has been most reliable. The hydraulic Power Gear system has never let us down until now. Lately, we can trust the slide to extend without issue but retracting has been erratic. Sometimes depressing the retract button (top half of a momentary on/off switch) does nothing. If I then hit the extend button for a second (slide is already fully extended) and then try to bring it in it might (or might not) work.

How do I begin troubleshooting this problem?

The first thing I'd do is is pull that rocker switch or the panel it's mounted on and clean the contacts on that switch, reconnect wires and try it again. And while I'm in there, I'd inspect that switch and see if it's working properly. If not, or questionable, I'd replace the switch first.

I agree with Marjoa.. start at the switch and if you're energetic just swap the switch with another switch to rule out the switch. Take a picture of the wiring at the switch so you don't get the wires mixed up.

You did not state if the slide is hydraulic, which I would guess it is. If so does the hydraulic motor run or nothing occurs.. if that's the case I'm guessing a bad hydraulic motor if the switches are ok. It's easy to change out too if that's the problem.

Yes, the system is hydraulic. When the retract button is pressed nothing occurs, however, the problem is intermittent so I'm thinking the problem is electrical. When it engages, it seems to run strong. Voltage is not the problem, batteries are new and I often stay on shore power or run the genset while retracting slides.
