Furnace questions

1998 34'Gulfstream Sun Voyager. Suburban Furnace model SF42. had issues with low heat output. Pulled it out and did the Mud Daubber Wasp clean out thing. ( installing the screens) Cleaned the whole unit reset sparky thing electrode clearance. Put it back in and when inside the heat output is great but it has a high propane odor inside. Tried to figure out why and figured that the outside cover and flue intake/exhaust vent needs to be installed to stop the fan from drawing that exhaust in.
My question is: is it normal to smell propane on the exhaust vent or did I just not notice it. It's not a lot but it will make your eyes water. All other gas appliances like this exhaust outside so I am in the dark here on this. Or do I have a low air flow issue and a bad burn??

Hello Jerry and . We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted.
Hopefully you install new gaskets when you serviced the unit. It is critical you do not allow any internal transfer of gasses from the combustion chamber to enter the living space. It is also very important not to insert any objects into the orifice of the burner nozzle as this can damage the nozzle and incorrect fuel flow can result. Verify you have good 12 volt to the furnace as this will ensure you have good motor rpms and proper air flow for combustion. I would also want to be sure the main regulator is set and running with a 50% load at 11 inch water column. Make sure your CO detector is operating properly and let us know if it alarms during furnace operation.
