Gas Explosion

I have an Amana three burner range top/oven with igniter. This morning while cooking breakfast I noticed that my front burner was a bit low but was not all that concerned as I figured it was a metering issue. After two or three minutes cooking I stepped away to make coffee when all of a sudden Whoooosh! and flames shot out half way across the MH. I immediately cut off the gas and began to investigate what had just happened. When I lifted the range top (burners integrated in range top) I found that the of the igniter wire for the burner had some how gotten between the gas jet and the burner causing the flow of gas to be diverted under the stove top. I was able to move it out of the way and carefully closed the top watching that all three wires were clear. No further incident, no damage. Wanted to make sure that you were aware so that when you close your top after cleaning to keep this in mind. I could have been worse than the "shorts cleaning" experience I had.

So....this happened to my dad once, and another time also to a friend once.....

Each had a truck camper.

They had tried to light the stove, but it wouldn't light. So each of these (grown men) went out to see if the propane was all gone.

It wasn't empty. They returned to the camper, opening the door to climb in.....while lighting a cigarette.

They each had forgotten to turn off the burners. Boom !!!!

They lived to laugh about it later.

My dad had JUST gotten the camper back from the upholstery shop where he got the wallpaper replaced, and all new material.

It needed to be done all over again.
