Issue I'm talking about is causing the yellow flame and soot build up. If ignored, that could have some really nasty consequences - like a back fire. The web is blocking proper air flow through that tube, which could possibly cause the gas to ignite in the area of the mixture adjustment. That flame generally starts melting stuff that's not designed to be hot pretty quickly.

This is the same issue you often see with water heaters. The one where you see the black soot runing up the side of the coach? Exact same scenario. Spider web obstructing the burner tube - resulting in melted parts/mess.

Well, its not the front burner, its the left rear. And its not "hotter", its clearly a bad mixture. As for the reason why...................?

Sorry everyone, but I was way too busy last night to even get out to the camper, hopefully tonight. Keep the pool open, I will post back when I find it.

Re: mixture, in general. When you close that opening off, you're limiting the amount of air that can mix with the propane, creating a richer mixture. This will result in a lot of orange and/or yellow visible in the flame. Too much air/lean will have a mostly blue flame, but it will be rising up off the burner, and can sometimes result in an ear shattering whistle. FWIW

Thanks, so it sounds to me like I have a rich mix. Helps with the diagnosis

And the price of eggs is higher in Alaska.... (but that has nothing to do will an orange LP flame either).

Add this to the "pool": You MAY have a 2nd LP regulator for your stove.
The propane gas line, (to my Princess 2 burner cook top), has an additional regulator in the already regulated gas line, (in a bottom cabinet, near the cook top).
However, my money is on one of the other 2 choices.
Good luck, (and may all your problems be small ones).

Thanks Mel, but even if it did have a second regulator, wouldn't it feed the whole stove? Or are you saying there might be a separate regulator for just that one burner?

Update:
I know its been a while, but last night I finally got to the stove. Took the burner and feed tube off, blew it out with compressed air, then re-installed. Lit her up and its a nice clean blue flame.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

You were lucky. Most of the time those spider webs won't blow out (I stopped trying!). You generally have to run a piece of wire or something through that tube.

Nuts, we lost the pool. Glad that you got it fixed though.
