After returning home from a recent trip in our National 2001 Tradewinds, I
started the generator and was running both A/Cs while we were unloading, when
suddenly the MH lost all power. Although the generator motor was still running,
it was not providing electricity to the MH.

I turned off the generator. Then after turning off the A/Cs and all appliances,
I started the generator again and only got about 100V power. I could run the A/C
fans, but when I turned the A/Cs on, the volts dropped down to 0. When I turned
the A/Cs off, in a couple minutes it slowly came back up to 100 Volts. Normally,
it would run around 121-122 according to my voltage meter.

I'm not at all experienced with generators. Has anyone experienced a similar
problem? And what was the fix? I'm wondering if it could be the black control
box? or the generator itself? Any suggestions on something I might repair? If
not, I'll have to take it to a Generac shop.

Thanks
Larry

My Generac had about the same problem and it turned out to be the Voltage Regulator. Here is a link to the manual for mine.

I also had to replace the Self Healing Fuse F3 which is just down and to the left of the voltage regulator.
I bought the parts from these guys, they were very helpfull and prompt.
Generator Parts for Generac, Kohler, Onan Generators
Mine only had about 200 Hrs on it but it was 10 Years Old.

Sure sounds like the voltage regulator.

Hi there, I had a similar problem and dug in, by removing the side panel on the left (facing the generator from the front) and with much pushing and shoving etc was able to see that the belt tensioner (flat belt) was not doing it's job.
The spring assy had broken. I have ordered a replacement from A.P. Electric & Generator Supply

0C86440SRV0C86440SRV - Generac Guardian rotary tensioner kit
1$139.85$139.85This was not a direct replacement. The changed the design.
I am planning to do this work when it gets a little cooler.
Do you have a manual for this generator?
Cheers
