Without any hint what unit you are referring to, we can only guess.
Most RVs crank the generator with the house bank. There are a few that crank it from the main engine battery, and even fewer that have a dedicated generator battery.

A 2017 Thor Freedom Elite, if your info is correct, will start from the house battery.

House batteries being deep cycle are not intended to start gas engines. A generator's electric motor should be powered by the engine starter battery. You would have to ask the RV manufacturer to be sure.

If you research deep cycle batteries, you would see that they can be used in starting situations.
They don't have the high CCA of starting batteries but auxiliary generators don't need much.

Most generators start on the house batteries because the converter/charger charges the house batteries. The generators need power to run. Most RV generators don't have charging systems of there own.
If the generator starts and runs from the chassis battery and you don't have Bi- directional charging or reach its threshold, you are killing your chassis battery as you charge your house batteries.

If your gen starts off the house batteries and you run them down you usually can use the switch to combine the two banks to start the gen.
