Generator Exhaust has no tailpipe

I have a 2006 Four Winds Chateau 28a. It has a Guardian Quietpact 40G generator Model 0047000. I am the third owner.

I was going to buy a Genturi exhaust extension to raise the exhaust above the coach roof. Couldn't find the exhaust pipe. Looking underneath, the generator exhaust is a stubby pipe coming off the muffler pointing straight down at the ground. It does not appear as if there ever was an extension taking the exhaust off to the side of the coach so I could attach the Genturi. The Quietpact manual does not show an extension in the exploded views or parts lists. There is, however, one small section in the manual showing a spark arrestor and an "L" shaped exhaust extension, P/N 0E0683. (See attachment) Checking several sites on the web shows the item to be discontinued. Also found that it was part of a separate installation kit that also included a tailpipe hanger. No hanger on the coach either. I'm guessing that they were never installed.

Looks like I'm going to have to visit my local muffler shop to see if they will make me a "L" shaped tailpipe. I've seen the part described as 1-1/4" X 11-3/4" Run and 1-1/4" X 16" Run making it 1-1/4" diameter x something. The hanger, P/N 0F2529, is also discontinued. (See attachment) I found a hanger on the web for an Onan generator that looks exactly like the Guardian one although it is described as being for 1-1/2" diameter. Probably work with a little help.

So, there's my quandry. Appreciate any thoughts/suggestions you might have. Perhaps you've run into this exact issue.

From a safety standpoint, looks like the previous owners and myself have been lucky.

Joe

What did Four Winds say when you called their parts advisor? It is possible that its not original to the coach however you could get lucky and find they have the OEM replacement available.

doesn't have to be the same as factory !
It's just an exhaust pipe after all

just buy the adapters, exhaust pipe, and hangers you need here:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...r+exhaust+pipe

there are a lot of options !

and put a chrome piece on the end of the pig

You could check Home Depot and use a electrical conduit 1 1/4 if you check you will also find an electrical saddle you can make a hanger use a rubber radiator hose of course you have to cut it and you need a few other items connector and a strap good luck

You can also purchase an exhaust hanger kit at an auto parts store. It may be configured a little different but same principal and perhaps cheaper than an onan. I didn’t look at the amazon on one but probably same item.

I wonder if that was installed by Fourwinds. All I have seen them use has been Onan.

Either way if you are dealing with a muffler shop to make tubes they probably have hangers in stock. Might cost a couple of dollars more but you will spend a lot of time chasing the same one. I'm cheap but that is the way I'd go as they can bend to fit and maybe do the install if you don't want to do it. The problem there may be access as most of them don't have the lift capacity and may not want to work without one.

I am spoiled as Winnebago even if they do not have the part will send you a drawing with specs so you can match the original more closely if you make one up yourself. A call to the manufacturer may reveal heat shields and other safety related items missing too saving you time and effort.

They will also let you know if there is a spark arrestor that should be installed with the tail pipe or if that mandatory part is built into the muffler. Run it without and getting caught starting a brush fire can cost you far more than the price of the phone call.

Thanks, folks, for your inputs. Using your posts, I cobbled together a mix of parts that should work. The only part still available from Generac was the Spark Arrestor and those are apparently in short supply. Seems as though Generac is no longer in the RV generator business.

Generac went through some upheavals over the years supplying Caterpillar with generators followed by a lawsuit when CAT dropped them and then a merger with Coleman Powermate that had to be undone so yes their line of focus has changed since then.

Own a 2006 Hurricane (class A) with the same generator with the tail pipe. I suspect one of the prior owners either had to replace the generator and didn't swap the pipe or lost the pipe on the road somehow. Not good to have the exhaust vent directly under the coach. Too easy for the hot gases to migrate up and inside with potentially deadly results. A good muffler shop shouldn't have any problem fabricating a pipe complete with the end flange. You can live without the spark arrester but best to get one when the opportunity presents. Mine does not have a hanger.
