Generator fuel problem

Does the generator get its fuel pumped from the main fuel tank by the fuel pump in the tank or draws the fuel to the generator by its own low pressure fuel pump. We broke down on the way home and had to replace the fuel pump in the tank. A month later I started the generator, it ran for a few minutes then died. I am wondering how the fuel is delivered to the generator. This is an Onan gas generator.
Thanks Cork Camereon

The generator draws its fuel from a separate line in the tank, with its own generator mounted fuel pump.

Most generator fuel pickups are cut short so they run out of gas at 1/4 tank. That leaves you gas for the main engine, to get to a station.

What was your gauge reading when the generator died ?

Thanks. i'm at about 3/4 full. I'm not getting fuel to the generator. I ran a line from a can to the filter in front of generator and after priming it starts and run. I guess its time to drop the tank and replace gas line to the generator. Any advice?
