Generator/fuel supply
Hi All
Late fall I'm on the way home and the engine fuel pump is done. Go through what many of us have and it is repaired and I'm on the home. As many of you know the fuel tank had to be taken out to replace the pump. Ok now the MH is put away I go to start the gen set runs maybe a minute quits will not restart, turns over fine, great batts etc. From what you can see under the coach everything looks ok and hooked up. The fuel pump for the gen set runs, the lines are tight no leaks and no extra slack. When the pump runs you can hear a gurgling sound like its trying to prime its self or pump fuel. I am wondering if any of you have any ideas I'm a strong believer in asking for help. If you need more info please ask or call my cell. 570-337-5900 Thank you in advance Steve Lambert

I'm going to assume you have a gas Onan 5500. Please confirm or correct me as some will need to know this in order to assist.

I wonder if the removal of the engine fuel pump might have produced air in the generator fuel line.
See page #9 for instructions on bleeding fuel lines.

Good luck

Sounds like someone didn't tighten the hose clamp when replacing the in tank pump.
Does your generator prime by pressing the button bottom ?

To confirm the fuel pump is working and no other issues other than fuel from main tank. Get a separate gas can and hook a fuel line hose directly from the fuel pump to the external can. If the genny runs good than there is a problem between the fuel pump and the main tank.

You did not mention fuel level in the main tank and no one else has posted the obvious, but do you have more than 1/4 tank of gas in the tank? You said the the tank was dropped and the fuel pump had been replaced. The tank must have more than 1/4 tank for the generator fuel pump to pick up.
If the fuel level is adequate and the generator pump runs, then as mentioned remove the fuel line from the generator carburetor, push the prime switch and see if you have good pressure and flow from the pump. The fuel pump could be defective and if you have to replace it, they are made by Airtex. Replacement pumps are available on Amazon and I replaced mine for about $35, all you have to do is search by part number.

Thanks
Cliff Myron Dam and dabrooks thank you all. I'm so thankful for this group. After reading the reply's I'm going to test the pump first. But am downloading the onan info now I am feeling that it might just be air in the line. The pump may be shot just like the main fuel pump was. This MH sat for two plus years it was run but no gas ever added. I have now put7-8 tanks through it. What ever thanks again. If I hit a snag I'll yell.
