generator help

Hi all, new to the forum. I have an Onan marquis 7000 7nhmfa26106d that keeps shutting down after you release the start button. So it has fuel, has fuel pressure thru the filter. new float and needle. gas is coming into the carb fine. As I had my granddaughter start it for me yesterday and I checked the voltage the voltage got to 156 when I told her to stop. It does not seem to be over revving. I checked a second time to be sure and right up there it went again. So before I shell out the bucks for a voltage regulator just wanted some input from the experts. Is it the regulator and does it automatically shut down when there is over voltage.
Thanks
David C.

Stating " New float and needle " leads to the assumption that you had the carburator off. Was the before or after the high voltage issue ?

If the high voltage is a new problem, try holding the throttle lever at a slower RPM, watching for 120 volts, and see if it keeps running. If it does, you need to check your carb linkage placement and governer settings.

Float had crack in it. After the simple float kit fix the generator ran for 7-8 weekends just fine. Last weekend it just shut down after about 10 minutes of run time. I went thru and checked everything, fuel, oil pressure, filters and everything was in working order. It would crank and run for 1-2 seconds and shut down, that is when I found voltage was high. thanks!!!
