Last nite, we lost the power here at home. After it being off for about 1 1/2 hours my wife decided to heat some dinner in the Mh...Well since the power was off I started the generator and turned on the furnace (maybe to fast?)...any way the Microwave light wouldn't come on, consequently she had to use the stove..not a problem...but the Xantrex Freedom remote showed the charge in orange lights and the house batteries 11.9 to 12.2...and the lights on the Xantrex charger/inverter appeared to be charging as per the book...
This morning after the power had been back on since midnight I went out and checked...the Microwave "is lit up on AC power"...So I unplugged it...turned on the generator and let it run for 15 to 20 minutes and the Microwave was still not on..I guess I am wondering if I am getting a charge from the generator or how to tell if I am?
I have the Onan 7500 gen and the Xantrex 1000 inverter/charger

It sounds like you have a problem with the transfer switch. I must be stuck in the shore power position.

11.9 to 12.2V is not a good range for charging. Good charging voltage (with your Xantrex) is between 13.5 and 14.5V or so. I agree with John, your should look at your transfer switch first. If you need help troubleshooting it, please post the brand and part number. Some transfer switch manufacturers have manuals with troubleshooting tips posted on their websites.

Good Luck!

There are two possible problems and the transfer switch is the least likely of them. IF YOUR RIG IS 50 AMPS. And from your description of the problem I am fairly sure it is.. More on that only on request

Pop open the Generator compartment and check the circuit breakers ON THE GENERATOR itself.. I'm guessing one of 'em is in the off/tripped position.. This is the #1 cause of this kind of problem on a 50 amp rig.

Now if it were a 30 amp rig.... The answer would not be so easy.

I thumped the ATS switch lightly and power came on...but my question is now what...anything (precautions) that I can do to help alleviate it from happening again? And yes...It is 50 amp...
the unit is a Parallax Power Supply ATS #5070 Type 1

The contacts may have become pitted with the cover off and power off take a dollar bill and draw it thru the contacts may clean them up enough for a few more years of service.
