Generator muffler bracket

Does anyone know if this bracket is supposed to be free floating(loose around the muffler) to prevent muffler from falling off if pipe came loose,or tight around the muffler?

Sorry can’t get picture to attach, but it’s the bracket that goes around Oman muffler.

Usually, the strap around the muffler or exhaust pipe is tight, the flex is in the hangers. I'd think a loose metal strap would cause rattling.

Thanks, yes it rattles. I was thinking of using some of that exhaust pipe patch tape to keep it from rattling. I’ll see if I can get it right first.

The bolt at top looks like it can be tightned up more. It might break while doing so, so make sure you have a spare bolt / nut before you shimmy under. I would do that before using muffler "patch" which doesn't work for a darn.
