Looking to install a generator in my Fox 27-5l. The only one I can find in the size I would prefer does not have an enclosure. Would it be significantly louder than a generator in an enclosure?
Thanks
Mike B

Yes. Plus the heat will cause additional problems that could cause fires.
Consider a portable generator. Less costly and useful around the house and elsewhere.

Do you have an factory designed and approved compartment to install a generator in the RV. If not, I'd give up on mounting it in the RV.

Even though our 5er has a generator prep kit I prefer to carry a portable. I am well satisfied with a Boliy. See their website: RV's choice for Portable Power - Boliy USA, Home of the Boliy Generator The new model has an electric start option, mine is pull start. It will power our 15.5K BTU heat pump easily, with enough power to use microwave, water heater, run fridge on elect, etc. Check out the specs which appear to be better than a Honda 3000.

Trailer came prepped for an installed generator. Don't see heat as an issue unless a generator built with an enclosure produces less heat than an unenclosed one. I would think similiar sized generators would produce the same amount of heat regardless of the enclosure. Thinking that the enclosure may baffel or redirect engine noise to some extent.
Have thought of portables, but want remote start and LP as fuel.
Thanks for the comments.

Instead of using Propane as fuel (LP fueled Gens are more expensive and produce less power for the same engine size) I purchased a 6 gal boat gas tank with a quick disconnect fuel hose. Then mounted it in the Gen compartment.

Mike, what you want is available, if it will fit in your space. Be prepared to spend near $4,000.

Mike- you are probably right about same KW ~ same heat. However, the enclosure on my 7.5 diesel Onan is involved in the required scavenging of the heat and redirecting it out of the way. On many gen's within a steel tube frame, they rely on air circulating around the device to remove the heat. You may need a fan setup to power the hot air out of the compartment, and will likely need an exhaust extension to get combustion gas out & away as well.
