We change the oil and filter once a year, and we don't use the generator enough to reach 150 hours within that period.

That is a great rule of thumb. If your not a full timer, change the oil and filter prior to placing your vehicle in storage.

I change the oil and filter when we take it out of storage, so it has fresh oil for the summer season.
And mine probably doesn't run 10 hours a year.
Doesn't make sense to me to change the oil and then let it sit for months.
To each his own.

I've also just changed mine once a year with an AMSOIL chemical synthetic SAE 30/10w-30 gasoline Small Engine Oil and Wix filter as I don't quite reach 150 hours a year, along with my annual/15,000 mile AMSOIL chemical synthetic 5w20 engine oil and synthetic oil filter change.

However this year we have a 4 month Alaska trip and will get fresh generator oil and filter before the trip as it would have gotten changed anyway, and will wait until after the trip and likely change it depending on hours. Probably won't bother during the trip if it stays clean looking like it always has.

I don't store my RV, but agree it is best to change the oil before storage. Oil has acid, corrosion and rust inhibitors that could be used up if not changed before storage. This is what most equipment and oil manufacturers recommend. I would also use an engine fog if the generator would not be used for months.
