Generator question

We lost our shore power and out fridg got up to 41 so I turned on the generator. Now the refrigerator says 43. The air and all is working don't know what to do. Should I shut off the brakes on the post when I run the generator

I am assuming that you are using a residential refrigerator? By that I mean it doesn't run on propane as well as electricity.

If so, your refrigerator is probably plugged into a circuit that gets power from your inverter. Check the inverter to make sure that the circuit breakers have not tripped.

no matter about wheather on inverter or not, when on generator the circuit shall still function same as shore power.

check the BREAKER on your generator, it may have tripped and even though it is 'running' it would not be providing any power to the inverter...

as others I have to assume this is a 120V electric fridge only? maybe your EMS is shedding power to the wrong outlets or?
The ATS automatically directs the current from SP to generator but its always a good idea to shut off the "" Breakers" till SP is restored
either way if everything is normal the fridge should be working
CHECK and see if theres breakers on the inverter and maybe one of those is tripped or if the inverter breakers are in your main panel(like mine are) make sure non of those are tripped

he said the AC is running so the breakers must be fine.

With my coach it's not necessary to turn the pedestal breakers OFF, (or unplug the shore power cord), when I run the generator.
(The transfer switch automatically switches the coach to generator power if/when the generator is started).

As for your "43 degree refrigerator"...if it's running on 120VAC, (either generator or shore), it will cool down eventually.... (however it may take hours).

One question not asked and presuming a residential fridge, does the light come on when you open the door?

Check the generator breakers. Larger generators can have two breakers and you could have one tripped and the one that is tripped supplies the power bus that the is on fridge.

And no you do not need to trip the breaker on the show power post. The automatic transfer switch, if operating correctly, will switch the coach to generator power when the generator is in operation.

how could the generator breaker be tripped when he clearly says his AC is working?? however as I have posted here already tripping the breaker on the "SHORE" power post is just a good safety feature I suggested

Something most folks DO NOT KNOW about "Frost Free" residential refrigerators.....

They have heaters in them. Yup, HEATERS!!!!

Now these heaters work in one of two ways..

So many minutes operation every so many minutes
So many minutes every time the compressor shuts off.

You may be in a Defrost cycle.

COMMERCIAL FRIDGE at a local Breakfast place, Shows DEF when it's defrosting on the digital display.. Very handy.

There are 2 output breakers on my 6.3kw Onan generator.
One is for power to to the inverter. the refrigerator and most receptacles.
If that breaker is tripped... but the other (2nd) breaker is not... my roof A/C unit continues to work on generator power
